In order to investigate designing a sound product, I conducted a series of experimentation that dealt with collecting sounds of our daily lives, perhaps creating sound identities. The first experiment dealt with saying one phrase multiple times throughout the day. I observed when the same phrase is recorded repeatedly, the surrounding sounds are the noises that are noticeable, as well as associating a mood to my voice.

From this analysis, the second experiment investigated ambient noise within a person's daily life. I gave my roommate a list of times for her to record 5 seconds of her life. By giving her this constraint, I was able to get an idea of her routine.

The third experiment recorded 5 seconds of every hour as well as having another classmate record his day at the same time. Through the juxtapositions of these sounds, a narrative can be told about our lives.

This experiments therefore lead to these ideas:

sound radio of life
exchanging sounds with people
high-jacking
listening to other people...surveillance
party line
switchboard. village
digital transfer
tuning into people's lives
radio---do people have control?
there is sound recording devices everywhere
tapping into sounds

After these experiments, I collaborated with Ping Li to investigate more in-depth about sound collections.
